The family library has some 4500 books - only
about 50 of these are about astronomy... Also, it hosts the computers
where I do data reduction and analysis. The Linux PC (Ubuntu 7.10) has the strange and wonderful IRAF package installed. On the Windows PC, I mostly run MaxIM DL, CCDSoft
and Visual Spec.
The library
Some of the more important
titles in the library are listed below: Alfvén, Hannes and Gustaf Arrhenius Evolution of the solar system, 1976 Bradt, Hale Astronomy methods: a physical approach to astronomical observations, 2004 Böhm-Vitense, Erika Introduction to Stellar Astrophysics, Vol. 1: Basic stellar observations and data, 1989 Böhm-Vitense, Erika Introduction to Stellar Astrophysics Vol. 2: Stellar atmospheres, 1989 Budding, E and O Demircan Introduction to Astronomical Photometry, 2007 Celnikier, Ludwik M Basics of Cosmic Structures, 1989 Intriguing book with a heuristic and refreshingly "down to earth" perspective on astrophysical calculations Frankel, Theodore Gravitational curvature, An Introduction to Einstein's Theory, 1979 Goldsmith, Donald and Tobias Owen The Search for Life in the Universe, 2002 Gray, David F The Observation and Analysis of Stellar Photospheres, 2005 Presently my main reading Harrington, Philip S StarWare, 2002 Jönsson, Uno Stjärnhimlen - Din vägvisare i natten, 1995 Kaler, James B Stars and their spectra, 1989 A pure joy to read Kaler, James B Stars, 1992 Karttunen et al Fundamental Astronomy, 2007 Kippenhahn, Rudolf and Alfred Weigert Stellar Structure and Evolution, 1990 Kitchin, C R Astrophysical Techniques, Fourth Edition, 2003 My bible, the maybe most important book in the library Lagerkvist, C-I och K Olofsson Astronomi - en bok om universum, 2003 Léna P, F Lebrun and F Mignard Observational Astrophysics, 1998 The right book on the right subject but just too difficult! (And I'm a physicist...) Loden, Liljequist och Mathiesen Astronomi och geofysik, 1971 Meyers, Robert A. (ed) Encyclopedia of astronomy and astrophysics, 1988 Misner, Thorne and Wheeler Gravitation, 1973 This is the book that got me hooked on general relativity but also discouraged me to take it as a research direction... North, Gerald Advanced Amateur Astronomy, 1997 Percy, John R Understanding Variable Stars, 2007 Prialnik, Dina A n introduction to the theory of stellar structure and evolution, 2000 Rees, M, R. Ruffini, and J. A. Wheeler Black Holes, Gravitational Waves and Cosmology, 1975 Ridpath, lan (ed) Nortons Star Atlas and Reference Handbook, 2004 Shipman, Harry L Black holes, Quasars and the Universe, 1976 Shu, Frank H. The Physical Universe: An Introduction to Astronomy, 1982 Stahler, Steven W and Francesco Palla The Formation of Stars, 2004 Advanced book but still surprisingly easy to read Tayler, R J The stars: Their structure and evolution, 1970 Tonkin, Stephen F. AstroFAQs: Questions Amateur Astronomers Frequently Ask, 2000 Warner, Brian Cataclysmic variable stars, 1995 The main CV monograph, written with great wit and humour Weedman, Daniel W Quasar astronomy, 1986 Weinberg, Steven Gravitation and cosmology, 1972
